They say that tragedies happen in threes...unfortunately, there is seemingly no light at the end of the tunnel for the Amella Family.
General contractor, father, husband and close personal friend of mine, Luigi Amella, recently discovered that he had a brain tumor. The size and location of the tumor led doctors to schedule immediate surgery, however it also left them very cautious about offering much hope for the future. During the 23 hour long surgery, Luigi suffered a stroke which, several weeks later, has kept him in intensive care. He is now relying on breathing and feeding tubes and has little to no movement on the right side of his body. Luigi's doctors are optimistic but cannot give any prognosis. Unfortunately, the fact is that there may be some lasting damage.
As if the medical and emotional stress is not enough for this family, the financial strain (primarily due to lacking insurance and loss of one income) on this family is almost unbearable. While I understand that the economy's current status leaves us all pinching pennies and watching virtually every expense, it's times like this that people need to pull together and try to see that there are others whose situations are far worse than our own. The Amellas are in that spot right now...and they can use all of the assistance that they can get.
On November 2nd, we will be hosting a fundraiser for the family at Fox Bowl in Wheaton, Illinois (http://www.foxbowl.com/). The event will go from 6:30 - ?? that Sunday and 100% of proceeds will be going to the Amellas.
HOW IT WILL WORK
- Local businesses will sponsor each team...sponsorship packages will cost $250 per team Sponsoring businesses will receive a 2 week ad in the Wheaton Sun, signage at the event, advertising on all flyers, posters, and other marketing materials, 3 ads on a local radio station, 3 weeks of ads in several local church bulletins and more! --- A killer deal for the price! ---
- Teams consist of 5-6 bowlers each
- Teams can consist of sponsor's employees, but this is not required (Good teambuilding activity for companies though!)
- Bowling is free, shoe rental is $3 for the evening
- Raffle tickets will be for sale for $5/ticket or 5 tickets for $20 up until the evening of the event. Winners do not need to be present to claim prizes...items will be donated and will include restaurant/bar gift certificates, sporting event tickets, concert tickets, airline gift certificates and more!
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP
- We are putting together a moving crew for the family...trying to round up volunteers to help the family get moved into a handicap accessible property prior to Luigi's return home. With a three year old in the house, a full time job, and the hospital trips, there is no one to help, and little time to make the move before Luigi's projected discharge date.
- Financial donations to the family are more than welcome! Checks may be made payable to Laura Warren and sent to 1141 Oak View Drive, Wheaton, Illinois 60187. Credit card donations may also be made...please email kristi@hypepromos.net for more info if you are interested in proceeding that way.
Thank you in advance for your assistance and consideration...and a huge thanks to those of you who have already donated your time and/or money to this cause. I realize that times are tough for everyone. This family deserves a bit of help though...
Warm regards,Kristi
